Trader Joe for Kenmore

What is Trader Joe’s?
Trader Joe’s is a food market that specializes in store brand products of high quality and excellent price. Trader Joe’s stores are a destination with a following; people will travel miles to be able to purchase their products with many devoted followers throughout the United States. Here’s a link to their website at traderjoes.com

The Village of Kenmore Needs Trader Joe’s
There are many communities throughout the United States that are trying to attract a Trader Joe’s store to their location. Many of these would undoubtedly make a good place for the store, adding to the food markets already present there. The Village of Kenmore does not have a food market and we are in great need of one. Kenmore is a unique place, the most densely populated Village in New York State with over 15,500 people living within the 1.44 square miles of the Village. Kenmore is a walkable community where some residents purchase their food from a convenience store; these stores sometimes offer limited selection, quality, and significantly higher prices than a food market like Trader Joe’s. Kenmore Village residents desire a quality food store to move here; one with superior products, great product selection, reasonable prices with a kitchy Kenmore feel. We have investigated food stores throughout the North America and have found that the only food market meeting our qualifications if Trader Joe’s.

The Trader Joe’s Initiative (follow the initiative on Facebook)
The KVIS has created a two year campaign to bring a Trader Joe’s store here to the Village of Kenmore. The Initiative has many parts including:

  • The adventures of Kenmore Joe including the upcoming “Where in WNY is Kenmore Joe?”
  • A letter writing campaign encouraging all local residents to send cards, letters, kids crayon drawings, etc. to Trader Joe’s corporate office, requesting that they place one of their terrific stores in the Village of Kenmore.
  • Support for the initiative through the Trader Joe’s for Western New York FaceBook page and media coverage of the initiative.
  • Special local presentations
  • Special presentation for Trader Joe’s corporate
  • Well known personalities support for the initiative

The Adventures of Kenmore Joe
The campaign is centered around a home-made stuffed 6’ figure who travels throughout the Village and WNY. Kenmore Joe, as he is called, is adopted by a family, a school class, etc. who take him to specific places. They share their experience with others in the area and Trader Joe’s corporation by taking photos and videos of him at the sites, drawing pictures, or writing a story; each person or group decides how they will share. These are then put on our Face Book page, web site, You Tube, and sent to Trader Joe’s corporate offices. Our hope is that this will draw positive attention to the Village as a great location for Trader Joe’s to place their next store.

Kenmore Joe has had many adventures so far; he has had such a busy appearance schedule that a manager was needed. The services of Kenmore resident, Nanci DeMeo have been secured as Kenmore Joe’s Manager; she arranges for Joe’s engagements, transportation, etc. Although this is Nanci’s first time managing the activities of an LSPF (life-size promotional figure), she plans to view her duties as one would a human client, even though one wouldn’t usually need to carry them to each appointment.

We are still in need of people to adopt Trader Joe for a week. If you would like to join in, just e-mail or call us, we’ll check with Joe’s manager and let you know which dates are available; please feel free to suggest a location you’d like to show him as well. With the help of the Kenmore community, we may be able to make the Village of Kenmore another Trader Joe’s destination location!!

Village of Kenmore has much to offer Trader Joe’s
The Kenmore Village community believes that a Trader Joe’s grocery store would be highly beneficial to Trader Joe’s and our community. Trader Joe’s is known as being “Your Neighborhood Grocery Store”; the Village of Kenmore is a community where neighbors sit on their porches, offer assistance and care to one another, and actively work to make Kenmore the best it can be. Kenmore is a neighborhood that would strongly embrace a Trader Joe’s, not just because we don’t have a grocery store here, but because of the nature and philosophy of the store itself.

The Village of Kenmore has much to offer including:

  • Very close proximity to the Canadian border crossing
  • Very close proximity to many colleges and institutions of higher learning
  • Very close proximity to highway and thruway entrances connecting all of Western New York
  • Reasonable commercial property lease and sale rates
